Rive Gauche Case Study

Business Challenge

In the last couple of years Rive Gauche’s number of online clients has significantly increased, therefore a large number of orders are placed on a daily basis. The existing online shop could not handle such a big number of orders (a part of them got lost in the ordering management process).

The client required a new platform that will handle a large number of simultaneous users and implicitly a large number of orders on a daily basis. Also given that currently Rive Gauche has about 200 physical shops all around Russia and the number is increasing, the online shop had to be connected to all the available stores. Therefore a solution that also offers shopping online and picking up the items in the store later was required.

Solution Overview

Hybris B2C E-commerce software was chosen as a baseline for the project because it delivers state of the art consumer experience, offering a large number of features out of the box such as powerful search and navigation functionality, including faceted browsing and keyword suggestions, comprehensive and advanced personalization to deliver targeted and more relevant content, rating and reviews to improve search engine rankings, vouchers, product recommendations and promotions for efficient marketing campaigns and cross-selling offers.

In order to build the system in less than half the time it takes to develop a custom e-commerce application, a big part of the shop`s functionalities are Hybris default features some of which have been customized to a certain level, depending on each feature.

On top of the Hybris solution a custom import process, based on CSV files, has been created to import products and product variants. For each product you can specify the price, associated media files, categories, rating and other product information. The process is linked with the catalog synchronization job and the SOLR indexing job, therefore allowing the administrator to add a large number of products using CSV files. At the end of the process the product catalog is updated and ready to be used in a production environment, without any further configuration.

The Rive Gauche style was integrated using the pluggable Hybris B2C WCMS system, to provide the desired look and feel. In order to offer a unique user experience for certain brands, a special type of page has been created, which can be independently customized. This allows the user to view special brands in a totally different layout.

The e-commerce solution was integrated with a series of SAP services that update in real time the stock levels, product prices, product promotions and the order’s status. Due to business requirements all the orders are also exported to an external system.
